This study investigates how different crop combinations influence the interaction between peanut plants and their rhizosphere microbiota. A long-term field experiment (8 years) showed that intercropping peanut with maize and oilseed rape led to specific changes in peanut rhizosphere metabolites (increased flavonoids and coumarins) and enhanced nitrogen fixation by both free-living and symbiotic bacteria. These findings suggest that tailored intercropping can improve soil nitrogen availability.
