This paper examines the complex relationship between mass tourism and the resilience of tourist cities, using Venice, Italy as a case study. It argues that a systemic perspective is crucial for understanding the sustainability and resilience of such cities, considering the interconnections and dependencies between various aspects of urban life, economy, and tourism. The authors critique existing alternative scenarios for managing overtourism, highlighting their weaknesses, and propose implications for sustainable and resilient transformations.
