Abstract

This study investigated the predictive value of neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) and APOE ε4 status on the conversion to dementia in Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) patients. 1512 MCI patients were followed for a mean of 2 years. Additive interactions between several NPS (depression, apathy, anxiety, agitation, appetite, irritability) and APOE ε4 significantly increased the hazard ratios of incident dementia. The combination of NPS and APOE ε4 status could help identify MCI patients at highest risk of dementia conversion.
