Abstract
This hospital-based retrospective cohort study in India assessed the safety of COVID-19 vaccination (Covishield and Covaxin) among pregnant women. Of 1974 pregnant women, 531 (27%) received at least one dose. Adverse events following immunization (AEFI) occurred in 46% of vaccinated women, primarily fever and injection site pain, lower than in the general population. Vaccination was not significantly associated with increased risk of low birth weight or congenital malformations but showed a protective effect against preterm birth and NICU admission. The study suggests both vaccines are safe during pregnancy.
