Abstract
This study used data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 (GBD 2019) to assess the global prevalence and health burden of diets low in calcium (DLC) from 1990 to 2019. Globally, DLC prevalence decreased, but increased in Oceania and several countries. The global DALYs for DLC-induced colorectal cancer remained largely unchanged, but increased in many countries, particularly in Asia, Africa, and South America. Higher prevalence and burden were observed in males and low-SDI countries. The study highlights the need for interventions to improve dietary calcium intake.
