Abstract
This study examines the connection between grant proposal peer-review and gender representation in research consortia using data from the EUROpean Collaborative RESearch Scheme (2003–2015). The findings reveal systematically unfavorable evaluations for consortia with a higher proportion of female PIs, evident in both panel member and reviewer evaluations. A discrepancy was found between reviewers' written comments and assigned scores, with reviewers not perceiving female scientists as less competent but exhibiting negative sensitivity to a high female ratio when scoring projects.
