Exploring Problematic TikTok Use and Mental Health Issues: A Systematic Review of Empirical Studies
L. Jain, L. Velez, et al.
This systematic review, conducted by the authors listed in the <Authors> tag, synthesizes 26 studies (11,462 participants) and finds TikTok use prevalent (~80%), highest among 18–29-year-olds (85.4%), and linked to increased anxiety and depression—especially in users under 24. Female users, lower socioeconomic status, and higher neuroticism were associated with greater problematic use. The authors recommend digital/media literacy, caregiver-guided mediation, clear usage limits, and call for longitudinal and interventional research.
