Abstract

This work experimentally demonstrates chimera states in networks of identical photonic spiking neurons based on coupled degenerate optical parametric oscillators (DOPOs). These networks exhibit various chimera states where different spiking dynamics (Class-I and Class-II) self-organize depending on local synchronization. A spontaneous spiking-mode shift, induced by synchronization, significantly changes the spiking frequency despite identical neuron natural frequencies, facilitating chimera state generation.
