The Millennium Eruption of Paektu volcano generated tephra deposits extending >1000 km from the vent. Using an ensemble-based method with a dual-step inversion and the FALL3D model, the study constrained the eruption's two phases fueled by distinct magmas. The volumes of the comendite and trachyte phases were calculated (best estimates of 7.2 km³ and 9.3 km³, respectively), along with eruption rates up to 4 × 10⁸ kg/s, generating plumes reaching 30–40 km into the stratosphere.
