This paper investigates the impact of the forced relocation of Portomarín, a Galician town flooded in 1963 due to dam construction, on its inhabitants' collective memory and identity. The study uses a mixed-methods approach, combining questionnaires, group discussions, in-depth interviews with former and current residents, and educational interventions with schoolchildren. The research explores how the traumatic event shapes the community's heritage perception, identity formation, and the role of heritage education in overcoming feelings of rootlessness.
