This paper analyzes the mechanism of a palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between aryl halides and terminal alkynes, a type of monometallic dual catalytic process. The mechanism is dissected into two palladium catalytic cycles and further into elementary reactions, each studied independently. By comparing the rates of these elementary reactions, the rate-determining step is identified, revealing insights into reagent entry and the kinetics of the palladium cycles.
