Electrophysiological signatures underlying variability in human memory consolidation

Using targeted memory reactivation (TMR) during NREM sleep with intracranial EEG in epilepsy patients, this study reveals two discrete reactivation sweeps: an initial hippocampal-cortical ripple-coupled sweep and a later spindle-linked cortical processing phase that together enhance long-term memory.
