Abstract
This literature review analyzed the efficacy of photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy in treating chronic pain and inflammation and evaluated the methodological quality of the included studies. Eleven randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published within the last 5 years, conducted in humans, and written in English were selected from PubMed, ProQuest, Scopus, Web of Science, and PEDro databases. The PEDro Internal Validity Scale (IVS) assessed bias. Five studies showed PBM positively influenced chronic pain; two showed improved inflammation; four showed benefits in acute pain. Six studies received an "excellent" IVS score, and five received a "good" score. PBM shows beneficial effects, but more research is needed due to limited RCTs.
