Unsafe drinking water is a major global health issue. Rwanda's Community-Based Environmental Health Promotion Programme (CBEHPP) promotes boiling and safe storage, but these methods have proven ineffective. This cluster-randomized controlled trial investigated whether adding household water filters with safe storage to the CBEHPP would improve water quality and reduce child diarrhea. 1,199 households in 60 villages received either the CBEHPP alone (control) or CBEHPP plus filters (intervention). The intervention significantly reduced *E. coli* in drinking water (20%), moderate/high fecal contamination (35%), and child diarrhea (49%). These findings highlight an effective intervention for improving water quality and child health, easily integrated into the CBEHPP.
