Abstract
This scoping review evaluates the effectiveness of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR)-based interventions in improving knowledge, attitudes, empathy, and stigma toward individuals with mental illnesses. A total of 16 studies were included, revealing that AR/VR interventions positively impacted knowledge (66.7%), attitudes (62.5%), empathy (100%), and stigma reduction (71.4%). However, limitations included a predominantly Western and undergraduate sample size, highlighting the need for further research across diverse populations and employing standardized rating scales.
