Abstract

This study investigates the dynamics of multidimensional poverty and its determinants among middle-aged and older adults in China using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) from 2011 to 2018. The study finds a decrease in the incidence of multidimensional poverty but a stable average poverty intensity. Most individuals experienced transient poverty. The probability of exiting or re-entering poverty was significantly influenced by individual characteristics, family structure, living arrangements, social capital, and geographic location. Targeted interventions are recommended to address persistent poverty among vulnerable older adults.
