Abstract
This study reports on the dynamic alterations in the human lipidome associated with health, disease, and aging. Using longitudinal lipidomic profiling of over 1,500 plasma samples from 112 participants followed for up to 9 years, the researchers identified >800 lipid species linked to transitions between health and disease states in diabetes, aging, and inflammation. The findings reveal dynamic lipidome changes during respiratory viral infection, insulin resistance, and aging, suggesting roles for lipids in immune homeostasis and inflammation regulation. Individuals with insulin resistance exhibited disturbed immune homeostasis, altered lipid-clinical marker associations, and accelerated changes in specific lipid subclasses during aging. This dataset provides insights into personalized aging, metabolic health, and inflammation, potentially informing future monitoring and intervention strategies.
