Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between public violence and family violence in Kabul, Afghanistan. A cross-sectional mixed-methods survey of 299 participants (clients of a psychosocial counseling service and non-clients) revealed a significant positive correlation between experiences of public and family violence. Both groups reported high violence levels, impacting daily functioning and increasing suicidality. Thematic analysis highlighted feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. The findings emphasize the need for psychodynamic approaches in psychosocial counseling, acknowledging the interconnectedness of public and domestic violence in shaping mental health.
