This article critically examines the practitioner-driven literature on science diplomacy (SD), revealing a gap between the concept's portrayal and its actual practice. Mainstream narratives emphasize international scientific cooperation for the common good, underrepresenting SD's use for competitive national interests. The author hypothesizes that this discrepancy stems from a cultural bias inherent in the predominantly scientist-author community.
