Concept and location neurons in the human brain provide the 'what' and 'where' in memory formation

Our brains fuse the 'who/what' and 'where' of experience into lasting memories — this study shows that distinct neurons in the human medial temporal lobe (concept cells in hippocampus, amygdala, entorhinal cortex, and parahippocampal location-selective neurons) increase firing during successful encoding, supporting hippocampal indexing.
