Abstract
This systematic review with meta-analysis investigated the chronic effects of high-intensity functional training (HIFT) on motor function in healthy individuals. A multilevel meta-analysis revealed small to moderate positive effects of HIFT on endurance capacity and strength compared to no exercise, but no effect on balance. HIFT showed similar effectiveness to moderate-intensity endurance training and high-intensity interval endurance training for endurance. Moderator analyses showed females responded more strongly to HIFT regarding endurance. HIFT appears to be an effective method for improving motor function, but further research is needed to compare it to resistance and balance training and to examine the impact of effect moderators.
