Abstract
This study investigates gender representation in four sets of Chinese English textbooks. While traditional stereotypes persist, particularly concerning women's sole responsibility for housework, the textbooks also acknowledge women's evolving roles in non-traditional jobs. However, the absence of men in non-traditional roles reinforces masculine dominance. The study concludes that improving textbook social interactions and presenting more equitable gender roles can foster a more gender-progressive education.
