Abstract
This study investigated the positive effects of nostalgia on subjective well-being, focusing on the mediating role of gratitude. Two experiments using different nostalgia induction methods (autobiographical recall and nostalgic video) showed that nostalgia increased positive affect and gratitude, with gratitude partially mediating the association between nostalgia and positive affect. Nostalgia also reduced negative affect in Experiment 2. However, nostalgia did not significantly impact cognitive well-being (life satisfaction). The findings suggest that nostalgia improves emotional well-being primarily by increasing gratitude.
