This article challenges the prevailing skepticism surrounding the use of the lost-wax casting process in pre-Han China. The author argues that a diatrete ornamentation in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, previously believed to be cast using piece molds, exhibits telltale signs of lost-wax casting. By critically examining existing scholarship, particularly Donna Strahan's work, the author aims to encourage further investigation into early Chinese archaeometallurgy and move beyond the current "doubting of lost wax" era.
