Autonomous Vehicles for All?

This paper explores the societal implications of autonomous vehicles (AVs), arguing that their development and deployment must prioritize social responsibility to avoid exacerbating existing inequalities. While AVs offer potential benefits like increased road capacity and improved safety, concerns exist regarding fairness, equity, and transparency. The authors highlight potential biases in AI algorithms, the high cost of AV technology, data misuse, and job displacement as key challenges. They propose a framework for developing socially responsible AVs, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and the integration of social responsibility considerations into AV design and regulation.
