Abstract
This research investigates the potential of Latvian freshwater sapropel as a pharmaceutical raw material. The study assessed sapropel samples from five lakes, analyzing physical, chemical, biochemical, and microbiological parameters, as well as extracting active components using an alkaline method. The findings suggest that Latvian sapropel, after appropriate processing and quality control, could be used to develop new pharmaceutical products and services, promoting economic development.
