Abstract
Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) contribute to several diseases. This study investigates the role of Akt in regulating the switch between NETosis (pro-inflammatory) and apoptosis (anti-inflammatory) in neutrophils. The authors demonstrate that PMA activates Akt, which is dependent on NOX2-mediated ROS production. Using Akt inhibitors, they show that Akt is essential for NETosis, and its suppression switches neutrophil death from NETosis to apoptosis.
