This study explored pediatric oncology referral practices in Canada, gathered healthcare providers' perspectives on barriers to accessing and providing rehabilitation services, and developed a framework for optimizing rehabilitation care and informing future research. A cross-sectional survey of Canadian healthcare professionals (HCPs) working in pediatric oncology revealed that approximately 25% of children are referred to rehabilitation, mainly for significant functional disability due to surgery. Lack of funding and resources was a primary barrier, with medical professionals citing a lack of specialized services and rehabilitation professionals noting insufficient space and equipment. The study proposes a framework for action with key strategies to enhance rehabilitation services for children with cancer.
