This paper introduces the FishClim model, applied to North Sea cod (1963-2019), to quantify the intertwined effects of fishing and climate-induced environmental change (CIEC) on fish stocks. The model reveals nearly equal contributions from fishing and CIEC (-55% and -45%, respectively) to long-term fluctuations. Ignoring CIEC in fisheries management leads to harmful lags, potentially causing stock collapse. Future projections using CMIP6 scenarios show substantial decreases in mdSSB (maximum standardized SSB) under climate change, highlighting the need for adaptive management strategies.
