Abstract
This study reconstructs the longest continuous time series (1626–2020) of debris flows at Multetta, a supply-limited torrential system in the Eastern Swiss Alps, using tree-ring records. The analysis reveals no significant changes in debris-flow frequency or magnitude over time, suggesting a lack of direct climatic influence on debris-flow initiation. This contrasts with findings from transport-limited catchments and highlights the importance of sediment supply in controlling debris-flow activity in supply-limited systems.
