This study uses a five-stage method to identify and analyze barriers to autonomous vehicle (AV) adoption. Ten barriers are identified through literature review and expert discussions. Grey-DEMATEL, a multicriteria decision-making technique, is used to analyze the interrelationships between these barriers, and a causal loop diagram (CLD) is used to visualize cause-and-effect relationships. The results show that lack of customer acceptance (LCA) is the most significant barrier, and the CLD highlights that LCA can be mitigated by addressing the lack of industry standards and the absence of regulations and certifications.
