Mangroves lock away both local and transported organic carbon, but how much comes from each source? This global stable-isotope study shows mangrove-derived autochthonous OC dominates top-meter soils (49% in estuarine and 62% in marine systems), while terrestrial inputs raise estuarine SOC and marine mangroves store 67% of global mangrove SOC.
