Abstract
This study investigates the dynamic relationship between greenhouse gas emissions and agricultural productivity in Ethiopia from 2019 to 2022 using a Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model. Results indicate a positive long-run relationship between agricultural yield and fertilizer consumption, agricultural land, nitrous oxide emissions, rural population, and area devoted to grain production. Conversely, a negative relationship was found between agricultural employment, methane emissions, carbon dioxide emissions, and agricultural productivity. The short-term error correction model shows a significant negative coefficient, indicating a rapid adjustment towards long-run equilibrium. Ethiopia needs to implement policies to shift away from high-carbon sectors to enhance agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.
