Rumination — repetitive negative thinking linked to depression — shows a distinct neural signature in the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex through dynamic resting-state connectivity. Using predictive modeling across five diverse samples (total n = 288), the authors identify a generalizable dmPFC-based marker that, when refined, predicts depression severity in adults with major depressive disorder.
