The Weather and Climate Information Services (WISER) Africa Co-Production Fellowship is funded by the UK governmentβs Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the Africa Regional Climate and Nature (ARCAN) programme.

Fellowship Overview:
Three fellowships are being offered β one in each of the following regions: East, West, and Southern Africa. Fellows will collaborate with local and regional organisations to enhance climate services and support the WISER programmeβs goals. They will bridge the gap between research and community-led outcomes and champion innovative co-production practices to enhance climate resilience.
π― Fellowship Objectives
Fellows will:
- Provide co-production expertise in their region, supporting Regional Climate Centres and/or National Meteorological and Hydrological Services.
- Engage with stakeholders to co-design priorities that inform future climate-focused development funding.
- Conduct research on co-production, stakeholder engagement, indigenous knowledge, or communication strategies.
- Contribute to WISER-wide learning on co-production practices.
- Receive support from regional and international co-production experts, including training and peer learning sessions across all three regions.

β Eligibility Criteria
General Requirements:
- Applicants must be nationals of eligible African countries.
- Fellows may be based at their current academic institution, provided it is in a WISER-supported country and meets due diligence requirements.
- Those without a current affiliation must confirm hosting arrangements before applying.
Regional Eligibility:
East Africa
- Eligible host countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Southern Africa
- Eligible host countries: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
West Africa
- Fellowship hosted at AGRHYMET in Niamey, Niger.
- Eligible nationalities: Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Senegal.
π Application Date and Process
- Assessment: Applications will be reviewed by a panel comprising representatives of the Met Office (UK) WISER programme and international experts.
- Interviews: Weeks of 1 and 8 September 2025.
- Results: Successful applicants will be notified by mid-September 2025.
