📖 About UNU-WIDER Visiting Scholars

The Visiting Scholars Programme provides qualified scholars with a 2-3 month sabbatical at UNU-WIDER. During this period, scholars:

• Conduct research on topics related to development and/or global economic issues.
• Prepare one or more papers for consideration in the WIDER Working Paper Series.
• Present a seminar in their field of research.

💡 Benefits of UNU-WIDER Visiting Scholars

Participants in the program will receive the following benefits:

• Monthly Stipend: EUR 3,330 to cover travel, visa, accommodation, and other out-of-pocket expenses.
• Medical Insurance: Coverage for medical and hospital services resulting from sickness or accidents during the stay.
• Supplementary Grant: Scholars may apply for additional funding to cover high travel costs exceeding EUR 1,200 (lowest economy class fare), provided the ticket is paid by the scholar and no other travel grants are received.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the UNU-WIDER Visiting Scholars Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a PhD degree in economics or a development-related discipline.
• A strong publication record is an added advantage.
• Applications from early-career researchers, female scholars, and researchers from developing countries are particularly encouraged.

• Online Application Form: Available starting 1 September 2025 (one month prior to the submission deadline).

1. Submit your application online via the UNU-WIDER portal.

3. Selected applicants will be informed of the final decision within eight weeks of the closing deadline.
4. Confirm your decision to participate within two weeks of being contacted.
