Opportunity Overview

The School of Law and Social Justice at the University of Liverpool invites applications for the International Visiting Research Fellowships. This program aims to foster international research partnerships by attracting academics from outside the UK to collaborate with the School's staff and research clusters.

📖 About the Fellowship Programme

The scheme is designed to:

  • Attract academics from outside the UK to develop or extend collaborations with the School.
  • Focus on establishing sustainable and inclusive collaborations, particularly with academics in the Global South.

Expectations of Fellows

Fellows are expected to:

  • Present a work-in-progress lecture or seminar.
  • Actively participate in the School's research events and activities.
  • Develop or extend collaborative links through joint publications or research funding applications.
  • Acknowledge the School's support in any publications or outputs resulting from the fellowship.
  • Write a reflective blog post for the School's blog.
  • Submit an End of Fellowship report (max. 1,000 words) detailing activities and achievements.

🎁 Benefits of the Fellowship Programme

Each Fellow will receive:

  • Funding for travel, accommodation, or subsistence:
    • Up to £2,500 (standard).
    • Enhanced support of up to £5,000 for collaborators from institutions with limited research resources (at the School's discretion).
  • Full access to Liverpool University library services and other University facilities, including sports facilities.
  • Dedicated office space within the School of Law and Social Justice building (subject to availability).
  • Participation in all research activities of the School, including relevant research clusters.

Note: Fellows are responsible for arranging their own accommodation, but support and information will be provided. Assistance with visa applications will also be available if necessary.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be of postdoctoral status or have equivalent experience.
  • Have the support of an academic member of staff based permanently in the School of Law and Social Justice, who will act as the host.
  • Propose a fellowship period of at least two weeks (applications for shorter durations will not be considered).

📝 Application Process

Applicants should submit:

  1. A summary CV.
  2. A proposal (up to 1,000 words) addressing:
    • Research expertise and reasons for the visit.
    • Detailed outline of proposed activities during the fellowship.
    • Contribution to the research culture of the School (e.g., collaborative funding bids, staff/doctoral research training, collaborations).
    • Envisaged outcomes (e.g., external funding, joint publications, long-term research partnerships).
    • Breakdown of projected costs (travel, accommodation, subsistence) and any co-funding sources.
  3. A supporting statement from the collaborating partner in the School of Law and Social Justice.

Key Dates

  • Application Deadline: 31 August 2025
  • Notification of Outcome: Within one month of submission.
  • Fellowships must commence within 6 months of approval.
