UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education
The UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education provides a global platform to promote the visibility and recognition of projects and initiatives in the field of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) from around the world.
📝 About the UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education
Established in 2024 with the support of the Republic of Korea, this prize is the first of its kind. It is awarded every two years to recognize outstanding efforts in promoting and advancing GCED through two categories:
- Youth-led organizations
- Other: Individuals, institutions, non-governmental organizations, and other entities
GCED aims to bring together multiple stakeholders from various levels and types of education, both formal and informal, to ensure that every learner receives an education that:
- Embeds principles of respect for human rights
- Fosters agency to redress inequities and injustice
- Promotes inclusivity and reconciliation
- Prevents violence, bullying, hate speech, and discrimination
- Encourages critical thinking
- Promotes collaboration across groups and disciplines to find solutions to local, national, and global challenges

- An international jury will select two best projects, one per category.
- Each prize winner will receive $50,000 USD.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
For the Youth-led organization category:
- The organization must be led by individuals aged 18-30 years old.
For the Other category:
Applicants can be:
- Individuals
- Institutions
- Non-governmental organizations
- Other entities
General Requirements:
- The initiative must be relevant to GCED.
- The initiative should have been implemented for at least 1 year with evidence of concrete activities.
- The project and its organization must not be affiliated with or receive funding from UNESCO.
- Applicants must be nominated by either a UNESCO National Commission or an NGO in official relation with UNESCO.

- Application Submission Deadline: 17 July 2025 (for applicants to submit to their National Commission or NGO).
- Nomination Deadline: 1 September 2025 (for National Commissions or NGOs to submit nominations to UNESCO).
