The UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development was established in 2008 to support the improvement of teaching and learning quality, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 4 on education, one of UNESCO's priorities. Awarded every two years, the Prize is generously supported by the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences.

The Hamdan Foundation, founded in 1998 by His Highness the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, aims to promote educational excellence, innovation, and giftedness. It honors individuals and institutions contributing outstanding innovations in the education sector.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Organizations active in the field of teaching and learning are eligible to apply, including:

  • International or national organizations and institutions
  • Governmental or non-governmental organizations
  • Educational or research institutions

Note:

  • Projects by individuals are not eligible.
  • Candidate projects must be nominated to be eligible.

📝 Selection Criteria

Candidate projects must meet the following criteria:

  1. Innovation: Demonstrated innovation aimed at promoting the quality and effectiveness of teaching.
  2. Exemplary Nature: Potential to inspire other programs, cultivate new ways of thinking, and/or be adapted to other contexts.
  3. Duration: Must be ongoing for at least three years at the time of application, allowing results to be evaluated and effectiveness verified.

🌍 Who Can Nominate?

  • Governments of UNESCO Member States via their National Commissions to UNESCO.
  • Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in official partnership with UNESCO.

Each nominating body can nominate up to five candidate projects. Self-nominations are not accepted.

📜 Application Process

Nomination Process

Nominations are requested through a nomination form, which can be obtained in the following ways:

  1. Candidates: Contact the National Commission for UNESCO of their country or an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO to request a nomination form.
  2. Nominating Bodies: Identify organizations with candidate projects and send them a nomination form.

Submission Process

  1. Account Request Form: Candidates must first complete and submit an account request form.
  2. Full Application Form: Eligible candidates will receive a link via email to access and complete the full application form.
  3. Upload Nomination Form: Candidates upload the nomination form (completed by the nominating body) to the online platform.
  4. Notification: Candidates and their respective nominating bodies will receive email notifications upon submission.

In exceptional cases (e.g., lack of internet access), nominating bodies can request access to submit the candidate nomination and application directly.
