Undergraduate Complexity Research Programme 2026
The Santa Fe Institute is now accepting applications for the Undergraduate Complexity Research Programme 2026. This is an incredible opportunity for undergraduate students to engage in a 10-week residential experience in complexity science research.
๐ About the Programme
The SFI Undergraduate Complexity Research (UCR) Programme is designed to provide students with hands-on research experience in complexity science. Each participant will:
- Develop a project in collaboration with their mentor(s).
- Select and refine projects through discussions with SFI researchers.
- Learn to combine theory, methods, and data from the physical, natural, and social sciences.
- Explore real-world complex systems using rigorous methods employed at SFI.
Additionally, students will participate in seminars and workshops to enhance their research skills and prepare for their academic and professional futures.

Participants in the programme will receive the following benefits:
- Travel support to/from Santa Fe, New Mexico.
- A $7,000 stipend.
- Free housing.
- Meals during the programme.
โ Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the programme, candidates must meet the following requirements:

International Applicants:
- Applicants from any country are welcome.
- Limited visa assistance is provided for international participants.

Undergraduate Status:
- Must be actively enrolled (part-time or full-time) in an Associateโs or Bachelorโs degree programme.

Return Requirement:
- Applicants must intend to return to at least one additional academic term of undergraduate study after the programme ends in August 2026.
- Ineligible: Students who will fully complete their undergraduate degree before the programme ends.

Eligible Students:
- Includes students from two-year and four-year institutions and transfer students (even during the summer between schools).

Dual-Degree Programmes:
- Eligible if you will still be in the undergraduate portion and return to it for at least one term afterward.
