The TWAS-SN Bose Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable at the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Science in Kolkata, India. The fellowship is designed for postdoctoral research in the physical sciences for a duration ranging from six months to twelve months.

Research Areas

The Centre conducts research in the following areas:

  • Spectroscopy and Molecular Processes: Linear and non-linear spectroscopy, ultrafast molecular processes, ultrafast dynamics in biological macromolecules, and more.
  • Soft Condensed Matter and Nanomaterials: Bio-nano interfaces, nanomagnetism, magnetic shape memory alloys, dilute magnetic semiconductors, and more.
  • Theoretical Physics: Quantum field theory, mathematical physics, cognitive science, quantum optics, quantum gravity, and more.
  • Astrophysics and Cosmology: Relativistic astrophysics, ionospheric science, astrochemistry, and cosmology.

Language of Instruction

The language of instruction for the fellowship is English.

🎁 Benefits

  • Monthly Stipend: Provided as per institutional rules to cover living costs and food. The stipend is not convertible into foreign currency.
  • On-Campus Accommodation: Provided in lieu of admissible HRA, as per institutional rules.
  • Medical Reimbursement: Partial reimbursement for doctor's fees, medicines, and/or hospitalization costs incurred in Kolkata under the Contributory Medical Scheme.
  • Health Insurance: Fellows must arrange their own comprehensive health or medical insurance to cover medical emergencies.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Age Limit: Be a maximum of 45 years old as of 31 December 2025.
  2. Nationality: Be a national of a developing country in the South (excluding India).
  3. Residency: Must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in India or any developed country.
  4. Employment: Be regularly employed in a developing country (excluding India) and hold a research assignment there.
  5. Academic Qualification: Hold a PhD degree in physics, mathematics, physical chemistry, or any branch of life sciences.
  6. Acceptance by S.N. Bose National Centre: Applicants must secure acceptance from a department at the Centre.

  7. Proficiency in English: Provide evidence of English proficiency if the medium of education was not English.

  9. No Concurrent Assignments: Must not take up other assignments during the fellowship period.
  10. Financial Responsibility: Be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.
