Applications are now open for the TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme 2025. This program is a collaboration between the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) in Karachi, Pakistan, and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). It offers fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (excluding Pakistan) who wish to pursue research towards a PhD in chemical and biological sciences.

The TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowships are tenable at the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular and Drug Research. The program supports studies leading to a PhD degree in the following fields:

  • Organic Chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Biotechnology
  • Molecular Medicine
  • Pharmacology
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Analytical Chemistry

The fellowship duration ranges from a minimum of 6 months to a maximum period determined by ICCBS.

🎁 Benefits

  • Monthly Stipend: Provided by ICCBS to cover living costs such as food, accommodation, local transportation, and minor illness expenses.
    • Note: The stipend is not convertible into foreign currency.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a maximum age of 35 years on December 31 of the application year.
  • Hold a Master's degree in a field of natural sciences.
  • Be nationals of a developing country (excluding Pakistan).
  • Must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in Pakistan or any developed country.
  • Provide a certificate of good health from a qualified medical doctor.
  • Be registered as PhD students in their home country and provide a Registration and No Objection Certificate from their home university.
  • Submit an official Preliminary Acceptance Letter from ICCBS.
    • Requests for acceptance must be directed to Prof. Dr. Raza Shah at:
    • Applicants must include:
      • A copy of their CV.
      • A research proposal outline.
      • Two reference letters.
  • Provide evidence of English proficiency if the medium of education was not English.
  • Commit to returning to their home country upon completion of the fellowship.
  • Must not take up other assignments during the fellowship period.
  • Be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.

📅 Application Process

Important Notes:

  1. Applicants must submit an Acceptance Letter from ICCBS when applying or by the deadline. Applications without preliminary acceptance will not be considered.
  2. Reference letters must:
    • Be on letter-headed paper.
    • Be signed.
  3. Applicants may apply for only one program per calendar year in the TWAS and OWSD portfolio.
    • Exception: Heads of institutions inviting external scholars under the TWAS Visiting Professor programs may still apply for another program.
