๐ About The British Academy International Writing Workshops
The British Academy International Writing Workshops aim to cultivate professional networks, mentorship, and provide access for early career researchers in developing countries to meet the academic requirements of journals, including international journals. These workshops equip researchers with the necessary knowledge and skills to publish in high-impact journals in the fields of humanities and social sciences.
Key Objectives:
- Stimulate professional networks and develop research partnerships.
- Encourage skills development and provide advice on career development.
- Promote the uptake of research emanating from developing countries.
- Foster connections with academics and journal editors nationally and internationally.
- Instill long-term academic culture changes and engage with the wider ecosystem researchers inhabit.
Eligible Locations:
Workshops are required to take place in:
- Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, and/or Least Developed Countries.

Funding: Awards are set at a maximum of ยฃ30,000.
- Covers travel and related expenses, subsistence costs, clerical assistance, consumables, childcare support, networking, meeting, and/or conference costs.
- Supports contributions of non-UK-based Co-Applicants directly involved in organizing the workshops.

Duration: The award length is two years to accommodate follow-on and follow-up activities.
โ Eligibility Criteria
Lead Applicant Requirements:
- Must be of postdoctoral or above status (or have equivalent research experience).
- Must hold an established role in an eligible university or research institute in the UK, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, and/or Least Developed Countries.
Project Requirements:

Each project must include:
- At least one researcher based in the eligible countries if the Principal Investigator is based in the UK.
- At least one researcher based in the UK if the Principal Investigator is based in the eligible countries.

ODA Eligibility:
- Projects must have a primary objective directly and primarily relevant to the problems of developing countries.
- ODA eligibility is an essential criterion for funding.
