📝 About the Fellowship

The Tech Reporting Fellowship is a 12-month UK-based journalism fellowship offered by openDemocracy in collaboration with Tech Policy Press. This fellowship focuses on the intersection of technology and democracy, exploring how technology reshapes economies, politics, media, AI, and everyday life.

🎁 Benefits of the Fellowship

• £30,000 per annum, paid out monthly.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

• Interest or Background: Candidates should have a demonstrated interest or background in journalism, tech policy, media, AI, or related fields. A commitment to producing high-quality, public-interest work during the fellowship is essential.
• Preferred Experience: Journalism experience is preferred. However, researchers, lawyers, technologists, and public policy professionals looking to transition into journalism are also encouraged to apply.
• Location:
  • This is a UK-based fellowship, and all candidates must be eligible to live and work in the United Kingdom.
  • Note: openDemocracy will not provide support or sponsorship for a work visa.
  • London-Proximate Candidates: Candidates based near London are preferred to facilitate attendance at meetings and building sources. Those based outside London should explain how they can make their location work in their cover letter.

Required Application Materials:

2. A cover letter (maximum two pages) describing how you would approach covering the intersection of democracy and technology in the UK.
3. A short memo (one to three pitches) outlining:

   • A broad idea for a long-term investigation.
4. A recent CV or resume.
5. Three professional references.
