The Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program was launched in 2017 with the aim of shaping the next generation of leaders in business reporting. This transformative learning experience is designed for journalists working in various forms of media worldwide.

Participants will spend approximately 12 weeks on the Hyde Park campus, auditing classes, participating in Stigler Center events, collaborating with peers, and networking with the university’s scholars.

🎯 Program Expectations

Participants are expected to:

  • Audit three classes.
  • Participate in class and complete all required readings and assignments.
  • Attend Stigler Center seminars, lectures, conferences, and social events, as well as other activities recommended by the center.
  • Engage respectfully with their cohort and the larger university community.
  • Sign a letter of agreement with the center to indicate mutual understanding of program and university guidelines.

βœ… Eligibility Criteria

Journalists with:

  • Some years of media experience.
  • Proficient English skills.
  • An interest in deepening their knowledge and understanding of political economy.

πŸ“„ Application Process

To be considered for the program, applicants must submit the following items via the online application portal:

  1. Curriculum vitae.
  2. Personal statements describing interest and goals for the program.
  3. Two letters of recommendation.
  4. Three published news articles:
    • If the articles are not in English, a translation must be submitted along with the original articles.
    • For TV or radio journalists, include links to video/audio files in a PDF or Word document along with English transcriptions.
  5. Proof of English proficiency (if applicable):
    • Non-native English speakers must submit proof of English proficiency unless their undergraduate or graduate degree was obtained at a college/university where English is the primary language of instruction.
    • Examples of proof include:
      • Certificates or standardized test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, Cambridge, Duolingo, etc.).
      • English equivalency diploma or certificate awarded by an accredited national education institution.
      • Work experience in an English-speaking office.
      • Letter from employer/manager affirming language skills.
