The Science Week Funding Programme 2026 is a national Irish funding initiative designed to improve public understanding and engagement with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The programme offers funding for various science-related events and initiatives:

  • Up to €50,000 for science festivals
  • Up to €10,000 for individual events

✅ Eligibility Criteria

The programme is open to a wide range of individuals and organisations. Eligibility is defined in the Research Ireland Discover Grant Terms and Conditions.

Eligible Research Bodies

  • Includes universities, institutes of technology, and other research institutions.
  • Applications from these bodies must be signed off by the appropriate officer (typically the Research Office) within the organisation using the Eligible Research Body Cover Sheet available on SESAME.

Other Bodies

Applications are also welcome from organisations not included on the Eligible Research Bodies list. These are divided into two categories:

(a) State Body (e.g., city or county council)

  • Applicants must complete, sign, stamp, and upload the ‘Other Bodies – State Body Cover Sheet’ available on SESAME.
  • A senior executive within the organisation must sign the cover sheet to indicate support for the application.

(b) Other Body (not an Eligible Research Body or State Body)

Applicants in this category must:

  • Complete the ‘Strategic Eligibility Application Form’ available on SESAME, providing details of the organisation’s status, registration number, auditors, solicitors, and bankers.
  • Provide details of the organisation structure, including positions and names of post holders.
  • Submit a copy of the most recent annual report (if applicable).
  • Provide a signed copy of the most recent Audited Financial Statements (if applicable).

Important Notes

If you have doubts about your organisation’s status, email scienceweek@researchireland.ie for clarification. Ensure this is done at least three days before the closing date to avoid submission delays.
