📝 About the SAIIA Scholarships

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a German political foundation named after the first chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. KAS operates globally to promote democracy through dialogue, political education, and training.

Since 1999, KAS has funded an internship program in collaboration with the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) and the University of the Witwatersrand. This program allows successful candidates to:

• Enroll in a Master’s degree by coursework in fields such as:
  • International Relations
  • Development Studies
  • Political Science
  • Economics
  • Law
  • Journalism
  • Other related subjects within the Humanities and Social Sciences discipline
• Simultaneously work at SAIIA.

Additionally, KAS funds an internship program in conjunction with SAIIA’s Cape Town office.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the SAIIA Scholarships, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Cape Town-based Scholarship Applicants:
   • Must apply for and be admitted into a Master's program at one of the following universities:
     • University of Cape Town
     • Stellenbosch University
     • University of the Western Cape
2. Must be 30 years old or younger.
3. Applicants may apply for either the Johannesburg or Cape Town program, but dual applications will not be considered.
   • Prospective scholars are advised to carefully review SAIIA's research offerings in both locations to make an informed choice.
4. Students who have already completed the first year of their Master's program are not eligible for the internship.
