The Hodder Fellowship is awarded to composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, writers, translators, or other kinds of artists or humanists who demonstrate βmuch more than ordinary intellectual and literary gifts.β Fellows are selected based on their promise rather than their past performance.
Most successful applicants have published a first book or achieved similar milestones in their respective fields. The fellowship provides recipients with the βstudious leisureβ to undertake significant new work during the academic year.

β Eligibility Criteria
The fellowship is open to:
- Composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, translators, writers, or other kinds of artists or humanists.

- Individuals who have not previously received the Princeton Arts Fellowship.

To apply, candidates must submit:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- A 500-word project proposal describing the artistic project and plans for the fellowship's 10-month appointment.
- Work samples accompanied by a 150-word statement explaining their relevance to the proposal. Samples can be submitted as links in a PDF.
Work Sample Guidelines:

Creative Writing:
- Prose: Up to 3,000 words.
- Poetry: Up to 20 pages.
- If submitting both prose and poetry, limit to 2,000 words (prose) and 10 pages (poetry).

Dance (Choreography):
- 1β3 links to at least 15 minutes of rehearsals, research, or performances (continuous footage with cue points).
- Do not send trailers, photographs, or promotional materials.

Music:
- 1β2 scores and/or links to performance examples (10 minutes total).
- Video is optional.

Theater:
- Up to 15 pages of a writing sample and/or up to 10 design images (photos or renderings) and/or a video/audio reel with cue points.

Visual Arts:
- Up to 20 still images OR up to 10 minutes of video OR up to 10 still images and 5 minutes of video.
- Videos can represent one work or excerpts; provide cue points if including a link to a longer work.
