📜 About the Program

The PAGES African Mobility Fellowship Program 2025 aims to provide limited support for travel and subsistence to early-career researchers from African countries (PhD students and postdocs at African institutions) who are interested in gaining experience in another African country. The program's ultimate goal is to foster collaborative research and promote a paleoscience network within Africa.

  • Duration: Fellowships will be awarded for a short duration of 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Usage Period: Awardees will have up to 12 months to utilize the fellowship once awarded.

🌟 Benefits

The fellowship provides limited financial support for international travel and living expenses, including:

  • Flight (economy class)
  • Visa fees
  • Accommodation and daily subsistence
  • Laboratory consumables (up to 10% of the total budget)

Note: Insurance costs are not covered, and PAGES is not liable for any issues preventing travel (e.g., visa denial or flight cancellation).

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applications are invited from outstanding early-career scientists from African countries. Applicants must:

  • Be an early-career researcher:
    • Either in the final stage of completing their PhD thesis/dissertation, or
    • A postdoctoral researcher within five years of completing their PhD (including PhD holders who have not held a postdoc position).
  • Be citizens of an African country and currently working or pursuing a PhD at an African institution.
  • Already be working on a research topic within the scientific scope of PAGES.
  • Be willing to conduct research in another African institution/country.
  • Secure the agreement of the host researcher/institution and provide a confirmation letter from the host researcher/institution as a pre-condition for the award.
  • Ensure the fellowship duration is no less than 2 weeks and no more than 4 weeks within a 12-month period starting from December 31, 2025.

📝 Application Process

Awardees are selected based on the merit and quality of their application. A complete application must include:

  1. Completed Application Form:

    • Description of proposed research and travel (max. 1000 words), including how the fellowship aligns with PAGES' scientific scope.
    • Description of the fellowship's impact on professional capacity development and its significance to the home institution/country (max. 200 words).
    • Project timeline and outcomes (up to 1 month duration).
    • Detailed budget in USD.
  2. Two Letters of Recommendation:

    • One from the current academic supervisor at the home institution.
    • One from the supervisor at the host institution.
  3. Curriculum Vitae (CV):

    • Outline major academic and professional achievements (max. 2 pages).
  4. Language:

    • Preferred language for applications is English, but applications in French will also be accepted.
  5. Submission:

    • Send the completed application form to pages@pages.unibe.ch with the subject: "Application PAGES African Mobility Fellowship".

📋 Post-Fellowship Requirements

After completing the fellowship, awardees must:

  • Submit a final report in English to PAGES, including:
    • A financial report.
    • A scientific report.
    • A short article (650 words and one figure) for publication in the Past Global Changes Magazine.
