The Development Oase Fund (Oase) is an initiative of the Dutch Film Fund designed to support independent documentary directors in the early exploration and development of feature-length documentary ideas. The fund emphasizes cinematic quality, artistic depth, and long-form storytelling intended for theatrical or equivalent high-quality presentation.
💰 Benefits of Nederlands Filmfonds Development Oase Fund
The Oase Fund provides:
- €10,000 for research and development activities.
- Support specifically allocated for developing a treatment. Eligible activities include:
- Research
- Narrative exploration
- Artistic testing
- Conceptual development directly related to producing a documentary treatment.
✅ Requirements
An independent director, not affiliated with a broadcaster, can submit an application for idea development for a full-length documentary. The director must meet the following criteria:
- Two documentaries of at least 50 minutes that have been released in Dutch cinemas and/or film theatres for paying audiences and/or broadcast on national television.
- One long documentary (at least 70 minutes) that was released nationwide in Dutch cinemas and/or film theatres for paying audiences and/or broadcast on national television.
Additional Consideration:
Directors who meet the first requirement but not the second may still apply if:
- At least one of their previous documentaries has been selected for an international film festival competition, or
- They have won a relevant prize for (documentary) direction.
